Ronnie van Hout, ‘Quasi’, City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi, New Zealand

Buxton Contemporary Collection artist Ronnie van Hout’s large public sculpture Quasi, which was installed on the rooftop of the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, New Zealand for the past two years, will be relocated to the City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi for a three-year period commencing in early May 2019. The sculpture is based on scans of artist’s own body and plays with the idea of the artist’s hand as the source of genius.
Van Hout discussed the work with Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū’s curator Lara Strongman in an interview held at the time of its commission and available on the gallery’s website.
