O-Week Student Party
Start your semester with art, music and good company at Buxton Contemporary.
All University of Melbourne students are invited to enjoy special access to our latest exhibition, Hany Armanious: Stone Soup. There will be great food, drinks, live music, and a raffle to kick off a big year of art-seeing and art-making.
This is a chance to meet other students, connect with the Buxton Contemporary curators and team, and end your 2026 Orientation Week on a high note.
We look forward to welcoming you into the gallery and sharing exceptional art with you throughout your studies.
ART
In Stone Soup, leading Australian artist Hany Armanious transforms everyday objects into near-perfect doubles that make the familiar feel newly alive. Building on the recent exhibition at the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds, UK, Stone Soup features more than 80 works spanning 15 years of practice, including many not seen in Australia.
MUSIC
Live performances featuring improvised jazz and bluegrass music will play throughout the evening.
FOOD & BAR
Enjoy Middle Eastern snacks (with vegan and gluten-free options) and a pop-up cash bar serving excellent drinks in the foyer.
RAFFLE
You’ll receive your free ticket for the art-raffle on arrival. Prizes include art publications and tickets for local art experiences and special events.
This event is free, but booking is required. Valid University of Melbourne student card required for entry.
