Cooking with Gas
Saturday 18 May, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm
COOKING WITH GAS is a new contemporary dance work exploring the current phenomenon of NIMBYism (meaning ‘not in my backyard’) as a barrier to climate action, through the framing of Victoria’s decision to ban gas in new homes. This short duet attempts to highlight the absurdity of modern-day politics, and our relationship and innate fascination with it.
Choreographed by VCA Dance graduate and 2023 Wattle Fellow Zodie Bolic, this new work attempts to answer questions such as how we can generate political will, and how we can make the problem-solving of critical issues, like climate change, attractive. Crafting worlds and landscapes in the medium of sugar, Bolic traces her own history growing up amidst the canefields of North Queensland to now the halls of parliament in Canberra to deliver a work that is genuine in its attempt to bridge a political divide.
