ASSEMBLED ARCHIVES is a visual storytelling project from Graphic Design students in the Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design) at the University of Melbourne, 2024. This object-based learning approach within a cultural context encouraged students to consider Tony Clark’s approach to image making.

Inspired by the Myriorama – a 19th-century set of illustrated cards arranged in countless ways to create new scenes – the project encourages students to explore how infinite combinations can reveal layered interpretations of time and continuity, disrupting traditional, hierarchical narratives.

Audience Participation
The resulting works invite audiences to select one or many copies, tear along the perforated lines and reassemble visual narratives. This action encourages engagement with graphic design as an interactive and playful medium. Available from the Buxton Contemporary foyer during gallery opening hours until Saturday 31 May 2025.
